President Trump delivered his 2020 State of the Union address Tuesday, with Washington state’s own Congressional representatives divided in their initial reactions.

The first president to run for reelection after being impeached, Trump received a raucous but varied response from Congress with Republicans in the House of Representatives chanting “Four More Years” while Democrats stood mute.

Democrats in Washington state, though, were far less effusive than their Republican counterparts in Congress.

“Unfortunately, what we heard from President Trump tonight was more blunder and broken promises,” said Washington Sen. Patty Murray. “I’m going to continue speaking out against the President’s politics of division and making the case for policies that will truly make a difference for our state and the country.”

“So many lies from this impeached President,” Washington Rep. Pramila Jayapal said, echoing Sen. Murray’s sentiments.

On the other side of the aisle, Washington state’s Republicans praised the address.

“@POTUS delivered an optimistic message for more strong leadership so America wins the future,” Tweeted Washington Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers.

“I just left President Trump’s third [State of the Union], and I think it was the best he’s ever delivered,” agreed Rep. Dan Newhouse. “It was full of hope and optimism and listing a lot of the accomplishments we’ve seen over the last couple of years. I think the President’s message was good: The future of America is bright.”
