While a calendar doesn’t tell the whole story, the unaccounted for whereabouts of state auditor Troy Kelley is raising eyebrows.
Kelley is already under close watch after agents from the U.S. Treasury Department searched his home last week while he and his family were on vacation.
Now The Olympian reports Kelley’s calendar doesn’t account for his activity on 150 nonholiday weekdays from Jan. 2013 to Nov. 2014.
Former state auditor Brian Sonntag told David Boze on AM 770 KTTH said his administrative assistant always knew where he was during his 20 year career.
“What are you doing with that time? Are you out representing the office? Are you around to the various audit teams in 14 cities around the state?” Sonntag asked of Kelly.
“If your purpose is to hold office, swell. If your purpose is to do something on behalf of the citizens when you’re there, that’s a different matter.”
Sonntag said if Kelly wants to be an effective auditor who works for Washington state citizens, it’s important to be in the office and develop a philosophy, especially in the beginning of your tenure.
Washington State Republican Party Chair Susan Hutchison told Boze they’ve asked that Kelly step away from his job or have the governor ask for his resignation.
