Pierce County voters are choosing a new sheriff in the wake of Paul Pastor’s recent retirement after reaching his term limit.

Ed Troyer began his career in patrol, was promoted to detective, and later was appointed the Public Information Officer by Sheriff Pastor, who he worked alongside for 15 years and recently received his endorsement. Troyer has also been the executive director of the Crime Stoppers program and the Washington State Gambling Commissioner.

“If you look at my past history, I actually spent 10 years on the streets working in a patrol car, I’ve worked investigations, I have a past commission with the FBI, past commission with different other federal agencies where I’ve been part of task forces,” he previously told the Dori Monson Show on KIRO Radio. “And also, I have a lot of leadership experience in law enforcement.”

Lieutenant Cyndie Fajardo is a 32-year veteran of the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department. She’s worked in patrol and narcotics, commanding the Parkland Spanaway precinct and multiple community programs, and is currently a task force leader for the Washington State Urban Search and Rescue Team.

“I’ve been a law enforcement officer for 36 years, 32 of those being with the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department. And when I started my career, it was always my hope that I could work myself through the ranks and to be a leader within the department,” she previously told the Jason Rantz Show on KTTH. “And especially here in the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office, I’ve worked through the ranks of the department as a sergeant, as a lieutenant, as the chief of a contract city, and attended the FBI national academy.”
