Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson and the state’s Congressional Republicans find themselves on opposite sides of a lawsuit seeking to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.

Washington AG forms team to ‘guarantee peaceful transition of power,’

The lawsuit was filed on behalf of Texas, levying unsubstantiated accusations of voter fraud in Michigan, Georgia, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, and calling on the U.S. Supreme Court to invalidate a combined 62 electoral votes that went to President-elect Joe Biden.

Republican attorneys general in 17 states filed motions supporting the lawsuit, joined by 106 Congressional Republicans in a Thursday court filing. That includes Washington Representatives Cathy McMorris Rodgers and Dan Newhouse. Notably absent from Thursday’s filing was Rep. Jaime Herrera Butler, who recently won reelection to Congress, but chose not to join her fellow Washington Republicans in publicly supporting the lawsuit.

On the other side of the aisle, Attorney General Ferguson joined with 22 other attorneys general asking the Supreme Court to reject the case.

“I will continue working to defend our elections from these legal attacks on our democracy,” Ferguson said. “This lawsuit has no legal or factual basis. It will not succeed in overturning the will of the voters.”

President Trump has repeatedly insisted that the 2020 election was rife with widespread voter fraud, labeling it “most corrupt election in history, by far.”

“The Supreme Court has a chance to save our Country from the greatest Election abuse in the history of the United States,” he Tweeted Thursday morning.

Trump’s campaign has yet to produce enough evidence to support several lawsuits he’s filed since Election Day. In an Associated Press tally of roughly 50 cases brought by Trump and his allies, more than 30 have been rejected or dropped. About a dozen are awaiting action. Trump has notched just one small victory, a case challenging a decision to move the deadline to provide missing proof of identification for certain absentee ballots and mail-in ballots in Pennsylvania.
