Seven people were arrested following reports of a disturbance on Sunday afternoon in Cal Anderson Park, Seattle police said.

Just before 4:30 p.m. officers responded to reports of people inside the park, which was closed, law enforcement said.

When police entered the park, they attempted to speak with a group by the soccer fields when a person in the group spat on an officer, police said.

The man was arrested for assault and then six other people attempted to “unarrest” that person, according to police. Those six people were then arrested.

Police said a large group of people then surrounded the arresting officers, making it difficult for them to safely move the arrested people out of the park. Additional officers were called for help to make things safe.

One of the people who were arrested got medical aid for a reported medical issue, police said. It is being investigated by the Force Investigations Team.

At some point, the officers were able to move the seven people from the park and later book them into the King County Jail for investigation of assault and obstructing an officer, authorities said.

The arrests come following a sweep of a homeless camp and arrest of 24 people at the park on Friday.

City crews are now working to clean up debris and trash at the park, which the city said would last several days.
