Seattle police and the bomb squad unit were called to the area near a homeless encampment bordering Broadview Thomson K-8, after a security specialist spotted a suspicious suitcase in the neighboring park.
According to Seattle Public Schools, SPD was called “around 12:45 this afternoon,” and the school was immediately put into shelter in place protocol. SPD noted that safety protocols were enacted out of “an abundance of caution,” with preliminary reports indicating that the suitcase contained “an old recording device.”
After SPD’s bomb squad confirmed that the suitcase was safe, the shelter in place warning was lifted, and police left the area.
