United Airlines is leaving Everett’s Paine Field Airport this October, according to online travel website The Points Guy.

The airline told The Points Guy that it is making the decision due to “demand trends.” It will suspend service to from Denver to Everett, Wash., on Oct. 5, 2021. That was the only route United had been operating out of Paine Field after ending service to San Francisco in February 2020.

United will continue to serve the region with flights through Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

Testing out Paine Field Airport

Paine Field opened to commercial operations in March 2019 and was intended to serve as an alternative for people living north of downtown Seattle. Before the pandemic, Alaska Airlines and United — the two airlines at Paine Field — were operating 24 departures a day.

United started operating out of the airport in April 2019 with daily flights to Denver and San Francisco.

Alaska Airlines still operates out of the two-gate terminal at Paine Field with flights to Las Vegas, Orange County, Phoenix, San Diego, and San Francisco. According to the terminal’s website, service to Boise, Spokane, and Tucson is set to begin this fall. Service to Los Angeles, Palm Springs, Portland and San Jose was suspended due to the pandemic but should return soon.
