Seattle’s month-long Montlake Bridge closure starts next week
If you haven’t heard yet, the Montlake Bridge is going to be closed for 26 days starting Monday, Aug. 9.
The project is in two phases, and first up is replacing the grid and expansion joints on the bridge. During this first phase of work, bicyclists and pedestrians can still use the bridge.
The second phase that begins this fall, however, involves full closures to all users. The repairs in this phase will mostly happen during the weekends, but it will not impact UW football. Mechanical parts that are responsible for raising, lowering, and locking the bridge will be repaired and refurbished in the second phase.
As drivers navigate this closure, expect long delays on I-5 and other surrounding streets.
