Ferrying friends and relatives to and from Sea-Tac Airport just got easier. The Port of Seattle, which oversees construction on Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA), has finished improvements to its satellite cell phone parking lot.
A new overpass access ramp and south entrance have been added to the location.
Chokepoint at Sea-Tac Airport cell phone lot is finally being fixed
Previously, drivers exiting the expressway would need to enter the lot though a signal, creating wait times for oncoming and turning traffic.
Now, South 170th Street will separate flow traffic, eliminating wait times at the cell phone parking lot.
“This week’s opening of the overpass access and new south entrance is a major milestone for travelers who will see a new route to get to the lot from the Airport Expressway,” the Port of Seattle wrote in a press release. “It’s the same exit, but a slight turn off the exit from the southbound Airport Expressway, on to an overpass and a new south entrance. This change will eliminate a traffic conflict upon exiting the cell phone lot and reduce travel time west on S. 170th Street and back to the main terminal. This exiting conflict has been one of the biggest challenges of the old configuration.”
Light construction will continue at the site in the form of additional landscaping, sidewalks, bus shelters, and traffic signals along Air Cargo Road and South 170th Street.
