Warning: The above video shows Seattle police officers shooting a man multiple times.

Update

The Seattle Police Department has released video, photographs and the 911 recording from Sunday’s officer-involved shooting.

On the June 19, 2016 911 recording, a man can be heard telling dispatchers that his partner who takes prescription medications is suicidal and is trying to leave in their car and run it into a tree.

“He’s trying to leave — he’s got a knife! Oh my God!” the man can be heard telling police on the phone, commenting that his partner is incoherent.

The caller quickly took his dog and fled the house while on the phone with dispatchers. His partner followed him with kitchen knives.

Police soon showed up and after ordering the man to put the knives down, he was shot multiple times.

Original story

A man is in critical condition after being shot by police during an altercation in the Central District.

At about 1:44 p.m. Sunday, officers the Seattle Police Department’s East Precinct responded to the 1900 block of South Dearborn Street to a report of a suicidal man chasing his partner with a kitchen knife in front of their home.

Police say officers arrived three minutes after the report and contacted the victim. The suspect was no longer there.

While officers spoke to the victim, the suspect returned, armed with two kitchen knives, and confronted the officers, police say. One officer shot the suspect, wounding him. Officers immediately began life-saving efforts and called for medics from the Seattle Fire Department.

Medics responded and transported the suspect to Harborview Medical Center, where he was in critical condition and undergoing surgery as of Sunday evening.

As per SPD policy, detectives from the Force Investigation Team and Crime Scene Investigators are on-scene with representatives from the Office of Professional Accountability to collect evidence and review the incident.

Per department policy, the officer involved in the shooting will be placed on paid administrative leave during the investigation.
