Some Seattle crime stories do have happy endings.

Earlier this week, dog owner Hana Hu came on The Dori Monson Show to tell listeners about how her older Rrottweiler-lab mix, Rza, was stolen from a parking lot at Capitol Hill’s Whole Foods while Hu ran a three-minute errand in the store.

“I can’t even begin to think about what she’s going through,” Hu told Dori after the abduction. “It’s shocking. I’m at a loss for words.”

Hu plastered downtown neighborhoods with flyers, and posted a picture of Rza to social media. The Facebook posts received at least 17,000 clicks, and the story from The Dori Monson Show Facebook page had 200 shares alone.

Hu told the show she was too emotional for a follow-up interview, but shared these details:

“(Rza) and another dog were spotted in a stolen car, … parked by a youth center in the U-District. Someone broke them out of the car (and) let the dogs into the youth center.”

Someone at the youth center recognized Rza from Facebook and alerted Hu so the two could be reunited.

“They did not ask for the reward,” show producer Nicole added. “They just wanted to return her.”

Listen to Dori Monson weekday afternoons from noon – 3 p.m. on KIRO Newsradio, 97.3 FM. Subscribe to the podcast here.
