How to donate to Washington organizations providing aid to Ukraine

As Russia’s invasion of Ukraine continues, several organizations across the Northwest have stepped up to send assistance. Ranging from local churches to nonprofits, each has sought to provide aid in a variety of ways, ranging from money to immigration resources.

Ukrainian Association of Washington State (UAWS)

The UAWS operates as a nonprofit that “works to preserve Ukrainian heritage,” organizing cultural events and gatherings across the state.

The group is currently asking for donations to help fund a handful of top priorities. That money will go toward the delivery of medical supplies to Ukrainian hospitals, body armor for civilian territorial defense units, tactical medicine, and assistance for displaced families and orphans.

Ukrainian Community Center of Washington (UCCWA)

The Ukrainian Community Center of Washington provides three primary resources to Ukrainian immigrants statewide: immigration services, behavioral health assistance, and social services.

Through that, immigrants can receive help in overcoming “language, cultural, educational and social barriers,” particularly for those who lived in the former Soviet Union.

“We have greatly expanded and provide many programs and services such as: early learning program, youth after school programs, family support, senior services, immigration services, behavioral health services, and many other programs,” its website reads.

The group also has partnerships in place with the cities of Seattle, Kent, Auburn, and Renton. To donate, you can head to this link.

Lutheran Community Services Northwest (LCSNW)

Providing a range of support for displaced immigrants, the LCSNW is preparing for what it believes could be “a new wave of refugees from war-torn Ukraine.”

The organization estimates that it will need roughly $5,000 per refugee to “walk alongside (them) for as long as it takes them to gain self-sufficiency, often several months.” The LCSNW is already in the process of resettling roughly 700 evacuees from Afghanistan.

First Ukrainian Baptist Church (FUBC)

The First Ukrainian Baptist Church — based out of Federal Way — is currently focusing on providing money “to help for shelter, food, and medical needs of the people of Ukraine.”

The church coordinates with congregations in and around Ukraine to help distribute its funds, and is accepting donations at this link.
