Firefighters were called to the building on South Henderson Street between 48th Avenue South and 50th Avenue South at 3:30 a.m. Wednesday.

A fire department spokesperson said one person jumped from the second floor to escape the flames. They were taken to a hospital, where they are stable.

Several other people were brought down to safety by ladders.

A Metro bus was brought in so that the displaced residents could keep warm.

The fire was brought under control by around 5 a.m.
