Sunny skies and warm temperatures are forecast for much of western Washington this weekend, with some areas expected to reach high temperatures in the 70s.
The temperatures this weekend are expected to be the warmest since an unusually warm day back on April 7.
The forecast high for Seattle on Saturday is 68 degrees and 71 degrees for Sunday, with mostly sunny skies on both days, according to KIRO 7 meteorologists.
On Saturday and Sunday evenings, those in the mountains could see spotty showers and thunderstorms. Lightning is possible with anything that develops in the Cascades or Olympics.
These storms will die out after dark and are not expected to affect the lowlands.
The Seattle area has been mired in a stretch of unusually cool weather for much of the past two months. According to National Weather Service Seattle, as of Thursday, there have only been four days with highs above normal in April and May at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, one day that was exactly normal, and 43 days below normal.
