Darren Dedo, KIRO Newsradio crime reporter, covers crime from over the weekend and overnight in the Puget Sound region on the morning of July 11: a 14-year-old injured in a shooting in Lake City leading to one arrest on assault charges, an elderly man was attacked at a transit center in Bellevue, and a family traveling to a new military posting lost everything when thieves stole their cars.

14-year-old wounded in a shooting in Lake City

Early Sunday morning, police were called to a shooting at 11300 Lake City Way NE.

They found a 14-year-old who had been shot in the arm, having then hidden in a nearby business. The victim was taken to the hospital to treat the wound, which doctors are saying is non-life-threatening.

While investigating the shooting, officers found bullet casings scattered around a nearly three-block area.

Witnesses told officers they had seen a group firing guns out of vehicle windows, before going into an apartment building. Police booked one person on assault charges.

Elderly man assaulted at Bellevue transit center

Bellevue police are investigating an assault at the Bellevue transit center that happened just before midnight on Sunday.

The suspect, a 25-year-old man, allegedly attacked a 63-year-old man for no known reason.

Officers located the man who allegedly assaulted the victim two hours later, only a few blocks from where the assault occurred. He was arrested and booked into jail.

The elderly man was brought to the hospital in critical condition.

This is an ongoing investigation.

Military family loses everything in Tacoma

Thieves stole “everything” from the family of a U.S. Coast Guardsman while they moved from Michigan to a new posting in Seattle.

The guardsman, Bo Partsch, had been serving in the Coast Guard for almost seven years.

The family had stopped in South Tacoma at a Best Western, their vehicles in the lot out front.

Thieves took everything they had taken with them on their move, including the truck, jeep, and trailer used to haul it all.

The theft happened on a night so busy that Tacoma police didn’t respond for six long hours.

Investigators, as well as Partsch, are on the lookout for his stolen possessions, but nothing has been recovered yet.

Pictures of the stolen vehicle can be found here.

Update: Ferndale killer found dead in California

Ferndale Police tracked Todd Andersen, a man who was suspected of killing his boss of 20 years, was found dead at 5:20 p.m. Saturday.

Police had received information that Anderson had fled to Clear Creek in Northern California, where he had childhood connections.

Lassen County Sheriff’s Office in Clear Creek was notified about his location and when they went to investigate found that Anderson had taken his own life by shooting himself.
