Darren Dedo, KIRO Newsradio reporter, covers overnight crime in the Puget Sound region on the morning of July 21: A drive-by shooting in Mount Vernon, a bank robber still evading police custody, and a child predator wanted by police in Redmond.

Arrest made in Mount Vernon drive-by shooting 

Mount Vernon Police make an arrest in connection with a drive-by shooting involving someone firing shots at another vehicle on Tuesday.

Mount Vernon Police were dispatched to a weapons offense in the 2300 block of E. Division.

Mount Vernon Police received numerous reports of a red BMW and silver BMW driving erratically.

According to officers, people inside the red BMW opened fire on the silver BMW. The vehicles were gone when officers arrived.

On Tuesday, at 2 pm, a 22-year-old suspect was taken into custody by Mount Vernon Police Tactical Operations.

Officers executed a search warrant and recovered the red BMW and other items in the vehicle.

The suspect was booked into the Skagit Valley Community Justice Center on a charge of drive-by shooting.

Bank robbery in Mount Vernon, suspect still on the loose

Mount Vernon Police are looking for a man they say robbed a credit union.

Investigators say it happened Tuesday before 4 pm at the Alaska USA Federal Credit Union on 315 East College Way in Mount Vernon.

Police say the suspect walked into the credit union and implied he had a weapon.

He threatened to harm the staff if the register was not opened.

Police say he stole some cash and ran from the credit union.

A K-9 team tracked the suspect but lost him.

Police say the suspect is a light-skinned man in his 20s with a thin build.

Manhunt for child predator in Redmond

Redmond Police are looking for a man they say attempted to lure a girl into a wooded area and expose himself in front of her.

According to Redmond PD, the incident was reported on Monday in the area of 166th Avenue NE and NE 104th Street in Redmond.

The girl told the police the man had asked her to follow him into the woods.

Witnesses told police the suspect is an Asian man in his late 20s or early 30s, with a thin build, short buzz-style haircut, wearing a gray tank top and dark blue pants.

He was seen driving away in a dark-grey older model 2-door Honda Accord. The passenger door is slightly discolored.

Anyone with information about the suspect should call Redmond Police.
