The Alaska Airlines Seafair Torchlight Parade will return to downtown Seattle on Saturday night.

The iconic event is one of many that was paused during the pandemic.

If you can’t make it in person, KIRO 7 will carry the parade live starting at 7:30 p.m. on TV, online, and on our mobile and smart TV apps.

Things kicked off on Friday morning with a preview of what’s in store.

Parade floats, marching bands, dragon dancers, prancing horses and the Alaska Airlines Drill Team will be on the streets of downtown Seattle this weekend for the first time since 2019.

“We’re definitely excited to be back, you know it’s been a long two years,” said Seafair director of marketing and communications, Sydace Jackson.

The parade will start at Seattle Center, travel down Fourth Avenue and end at Spring Street.

“It’s over 80 units, you’re looking at close to 1,200 people and they are probably going to take 5,000 steps along the parade route,” said Jackson.

This is the 12th year the Alaska Airlines Drill team has performed at the parade.

Orlando “Orly” Tercero has danced with the group for 10 years.

“I am thrilled to be back dancing the beautiful streets of Seattle again,” said Tercero.

Everyone on the drill team is a flight attendant.

The annual event is a fan favorite because of the cultural diversity and Pacific Northwest traditions it displays.

“I love the fact that every community comes out to see it, so the sides of the street are lined with everyone that loves the city,” said this year’s King Neptune, Rich Gray.

The event is free, but reserved roadside and grandstand seating is available for purchase.
