Beutler, Newhouse election analysis

Two closely-watched Washington state Congressional races appear to show 3rd and 4th District Republican incumbents Jamie Herrera Beutler and Dan Newhouse likely moving on to the November election.

Both faced strong opposition from their own party, in part because they voted to impeach former President Trump after the January 6th insurrection.

Political Analyst Christal Fincher tells KIRO 7 TV what their advancement means to voters.

And while it’s too soon to tell which candidates will face-off in November, the Democratic candidates in both of those races had very strong early results.

Starbucks reports record revenue despite rising costs

Starbucks reported record revenue in the April-June period, benefitting from hundreds of new stores and higher prices.

The Seattle-based coffee giant said its revenue rose 9% to $8.2 billion, a quarterly record. That surpassed Wall Street’s forecast. Global same-store sales, or sales at stores open at least a year, rose 3%, which was just shy of Wall Street’s expectations.

Starbucks said traffic was slower, mostly due to continuing closures in China. But customers spent more when they visited.

Starbucks said its net income fell 21% as the company spent more on labor, worker training and supply chain costs.

Two new Washington natives were recruited to Mariners

The Mariners add some local talent to their roster.

The team traded for Seattle native Jake Lamb and Mercer Island-born Matthew Boyd.

Lamb played at Bishop Blanchet High School in Seattle and college ball at the University of Washington.

Boyd went to Eastside Catholic High School before playing at Oregon State.

Both are 31-year-old veterans.

Former Seahawk given ankle monitor during domestic violence hearings

Former Seattle Seahawk Chad Wheeler will get a new ankle monitor after he pulled off his old one while on house arrest.

Wheeler is accused of choking his then girlfriend Alleah Taylor in January of last year.

According to court documents, Wheeler had a mental health issue this past Sunday night.

He was taken to Evergreen Hospital in Kirkland and released Monday morning.

In an emergency hearing, Taylor told prosecutors that Wheeler needed to be kept away from her.

Taylor will now be alerted if Wheeler tampers with the new ankle monitor.

Wheeler has pleaded not guilty to charges of first-degree assault of domestic violence.
