KIRO Newsradio Headlines: Special Olympics truck recovered after it was initially stolen

Tukwila Police recovered a stolen truck with sports equipment owned by Special Olympics of Washington.

The U-Haul truck was ripped off Sunday night after a weekend of competition with signs, medals, and other equipment for competitions.

The truck was recovered yesterday morning in Normandy Park, locked up, so the thieves couldn’t take the stuff inside.

So far, no arrests have been made. Anyone with tips should call Tukwila Police.

Escaped inmate recaptured near Davenport

An escaped inmate west of Spokane was recaptured today south of Davenport.

Residents saw him and called 911.

37-year-old Cody Magruder got away from the Lincoln County jail last night.

The sheriff said he was behind bars on numerous charges and for investigation of violating a no-contact order.

Starbucks workers demonstrate over store shutdown

Some Starbucks employees are demonstrating today, upset about a store transition in North Seattle they say will put union organizers out of work.

A statement from the union group, Starbucks United, says current employees will lose jobs when the café on Holman Road turns into a licensed location for a grocery store.

Starbucks confirms grocery employees will take over running the coffee shop.

Starbucks adds that it opens and closes stores as a standard part of operations.

The company says the decisions are based largely on profit and safety at each store.

Macy’s reveals workout clothes, cosmetics most purchased items

Macy’s released second-quarter results today, offering a glimpse into what shoppers are willing to spend money on.

Despite a solid second-quarter report, Macy’s is trimming expectations for the remainder of the year.

With inflation running high, families are buying only what is necessary, but what’s necessary has changed. People are heading back to the office, going out more, traveling, etc.

What’s in? Macy’s says shoppers are buying work clothes, cosmetics, and luggage. What’s out? Casual clothes, home furniture, and appliances.

Macy’s — like other retailers — are stuck with a glut of products they can’t move. That means you may see some steep discounts as the holiday season approaches.
