Auburn Police said a man blew up a car at a funeral in Washington.

The Tacoma News Tribune reports the suspect put an explosive device in an attendee’s car during an August 23 funeral service at Mountain View Cemetery.

The information is only being reported Monday on the Auburn Police Department’s Facebook Page.

The fire caused by the explosion destroyed the car, but no injuries were reported.

Snohomish County cuts some power lines for firefighter safety

The Bolt Creek Fire has prompted the Snohomish County Public Utility District to shut down some electric lines east of Index.

Spokesperson Kellie Stickney says they’re not doing this to prevent wildfires, as utilities have done in California but to protect first responders.

“If those lines happen to come in contact with the fire, or a line happens to come down, then it could be a potential danger to the first responders,” Stickney said.

So firefighters have requested that the lines be “de-energized.”

The outage affects about 300 customers in the evacuation zone, but Stickney says power will be restored when it’s safe to do so.

Blue Origin rocket aborts mission mid-flight

Jeff Bezos couldn’t get his rocket up Monday when an unmanned Blue Origin rocket ran into trouble about a minute into flight out of West Texas.

The emergency “abort” system kicked in, allowing the capsule containing experiments to parachute itself to safety, but the rocket crashed down to Earth.

The Federal Aviation Administration says it will investigate a Blue Origin launch failure, but the aborted launch has left many people disappointed, including some Orlando-area students.

No one was aboard the Blue Origin flight, which used the same kind of rocket as the one that sends paying customers to the edge of space. The rockets are now grounded pending the outcome of an investigation.

Schools closed due to fire air quality

Schools will be closed in Index again Tuesday because of the wildfire burning North of Skykomish.

The Island and Snohomish County school district says air quality is poor and it’s unknown if U.S. Highway 2 will reopen by tomorrow.

All Sultan Schools were closed today because of the smoky air.
