Senator Patty Murray, struggling to generate excitement for her candidacy, is adopting a new strategy. She’s pretending Seattle isn’t experiencing a crime crisis. But while she was at a campaign stop for a photo op, there were dozens of crimes being committed by beneficiaries of her light-on-crime approach across the city.

In a campaign ad, Republican candidate Tiffany Smiley highlighted a Starbucks on Capitol Hill that was closed over crime concerns. Murray turned to left-wing Seattle Times reporter David Gutman for support. In an editorial masquerading as a news piece, Gutman quoted a Democrat activist to claim the neighborhood was safe because she felt comfortable walking to nearby Analog Coffee.

Murray then visited Analog Oct. 5, mocking the language Smiley used in her campaign. She claimed the neighborhood was “thriving.” But on the day of her visit, there were 11 emergency calls to 911 in that very neighborhood.

Crimes break out around Murray’s photo-op

Murray claimed the neighborhood was thriving. But in the week leading up to her campaign visit, there were 66 emergency calls made to 911. They include 21 investigations for assault, 16 for larceny/theft, 10 for burglaries/breaking and entering, nine for motor vehicle theft, and six for robbery.

Less than 30 minutes before Murray’s photo op, police investigated one of the day’s three larceny/theft calls just blocks away. Roughly three hours earlier, one of the week’s many reported assaults occurred.

A few hours after Murray packed up to leave a neighborhood she will never visit again, there was a felony burglary investigation. Later that night, less than two miles away, two teens were shot. Days later, the city saw its 49th homicide.

This isn’t what it means to thrive. But “thrive” could be the latest word Democrats redefine to benefit them politically.
