Man tears off wheel while fleeing Seattle police in stolen moving van

A man was arrested Wednesday morning after trying to run away from Seattle Police officers in a stolen U-Haul, tearing off the wheel in the process.
Just before 7 a.m., a patrolling officer saw the suspect passed out in a running moving truck parked at 25th Avenue South and South Hill Street.
The officer ran the plates of the van and saw that it was reported stolen in Redmond. They first tried to awaken the man using the patrol car’s PA system but after the man did not wake up, officers reportedly walked up to the vehicle to rouse the man.
When he did wake up, the suspect put the vehicle into gear and sped away, crossing four lanes of traffic on Rainier Avenue and shearing off one of the truck’s wheels on a concrete platform.
With the van now unable to move, the suspect tried to run away but was taken into custody by an officer and a K9 team.
The 36-year-old man was arrested and police found that he was wanted for several warrants.
Methamphetamine paraphernalia was recovered from the truck.
The suspect was taken to Harborview Medical Center for a medical examination before being booked into King County Jail for possession of stolen property and warrants. He has the possibility to also face charges for eluding arrest, reckless driving, and hit and run
