It only took five hours on the first day of September to dump more rain on Seattle than the city experienced during the month of August. It seems the signature Seattle weather has returned.

Seattle breaks spring season heat records

That’s according to the National Weather Service which reports that August in Seattle had .17 inches of rain through the whole month. Over the evening of Sept. 1 and morning of Sept. 2, the Puget Sound region experienced a range of rain levels from .2 inches to 1.2 inches.

KIRO 7’s Nick Allard reports that the initial heavy rain has subsided, and the Northwest can now expect lighter, scattered showers heading into the weekend.

The current weather forecast has the coming weekend (Saturday and Sunday) with cloudy skies, but with slight chances of rain, however the rain is expected to pick right back up on Monday.

Seattle weather breaking records

This all happens as Seattle exits a record-making August. Last month was the fourth warmest August on record with an average temperature of 68.1 degrees Fahrenheit, according to the National Weather Service. The temperatures are recorded at Sea-Tac. But breaking warm-weather records seems to be the recent trend. The warmest August on record was in 1967 with and average of 71.1 degrees. But the remaining top five warmest Augusts on record have come from the last four years.

• 1967 – 71.1 degrees
• 2013 – 69.4 degrees
• 2014 – 69.1 degrees
• 2016 – 68.7 degrees
• 2015 – 68.7 degrees
