So far this month, Washington communities have experienced far more than average rainfall. And there is more rainy Northwest weather on the way.

What happened to the severe Northwest storm that was predicted?

The National Weather Service reports that Seattle weather has seen 5.72 inches of rain during the first half of October. Normal rainfall would be around 3.48 inches for the area. The increased rainfall is more dramatic in other communities, such as Quillayute and Hoquiam near the coast. Hoquiam usually has about 6.53 inches of rain in October — so far it’s gotten 10.17 inches. Olympia also stands out — 7.06 inches in the first half of the month when 4.6 inches is normal.

More rainy Northwest weather to come

That’s just for the first half of October. There’s more wet weather on the way.

Current Northwest weather forecasts show rain every day for the week ahead — thunderstorms, too. Weather predictions looking further out — and are, of course, subject to change — indicate the rain will stay with us through the rest of the month.
