It was a very merry Christmas for the Britten family, thanks to a stranger living across the country. A stranger by the name of Eddie Vedder.

Tyshika Britten lives in Oxon Hill, Md. The 35-year-old was facing hard times as well as an eviction, the Washington Post reports. Not knowing where to turn, she sent a plea into the ether via Craigslist.  She explained her situation — a mother of six; hair stylist; unable to purchase presents or keep up with the costs of living.

“I’m such a failure right now. Please help me,” Britten wrote.

A GoFundMe page was set up for donations. Her plea received responses from people in her area. One good Samaritan sent a PlayStation 4, and another gave the family a puppy. But one response came from a man in Seattle. Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder sent Britten a $10,000 check.

“Is he in a band?” Britten reportedly said in the Washington Post. The family, unfamiliar with Pearl Jam’s iconic music, recently spent a day watching the band’s concerts online.

Vedder told the Post that Britten’s story reminded him of his own childhood, when some times were financially difficult.

Vedder told the Post:

I was just so moved by the story and what this mother did for her children. I thought those kids must be so proud of their mother for reaching out. That takes a lot of courage.
