Milo needs to step back and take a breath

Feb 22, 2017, 10:55 PM

I listened to the unearthed clips of Milo Yiannopoulos over the weekend talking about young boys and molestation and I got into a bunch of arguments with listeners about Milo getting dropped at CPAC.

I also watched his apology yesterday and thought it was decent and honest. I pray that this is a turning point for this young guy because he truly has a talent.

What he originally said is undeniably wrong and cannot be promoted or endorsed. What he said a year and a half ago about molestation is complex and are the words of someone who was victimized. And it’s common for male victims of molestation to treat it as flippantly as Milo did.

But what Milo said in those clips is the same garbage that molesters say to kids. I defend his right to speak but I don’t share his ideology. I am not a fellow traveler with the alt-right. I’m not part of the same tribe. Can you imagine if a Democrat said what Milo said about molestation? Republicans would be up in arms; that is tribalism not principle.

Milo is an intelligent man and he’s not a victim, he was victimized. He’s too smart to stay on the path he’s on. He needs to get away from the alt-right thing, step back, take a breath and refocus his exceptional intelligence.

As always, please listen to the full audio clip for complete context.

NEW YORK (AP) — Ken Martin is in survival mode. Europe’s wildfire crisis fractures as Greece evacuates and France guards megafire scar

LACANAU, France (AP) — Europe’s wildfire crisis fractured along starkly different fronts Sunday: gale-force winds drove flames deeper into the Athens region and forced fresh evacuations, France guarded a still-burning scar four times the size of Paris against renewed spread, and Spain’s major fires finally stopped advancing. The center of immediate danger was Greece. Gale-force […]

Republicans want voters to elect Kansas Supreme Court justices and move court to the right

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — Kansas voters will decide Tuesday whether to elect state Supreme Court justices rather than have the governor appoint them, a push from conservatives who have chafed for years over court decisions they disagreed with on issues such as abortion, school funding and the death penalty. If the constitutional amendment passes, supporters […]
