For tween girls, “Bieber fever” is so yesterday. Now they’re suffering from the “One Direction infection.”
Tickets for the boy band’s summer 2013 show at Key Arena went on sale over the weekend. That’s not a typo. The concert is July 28, 2013.
Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles (he’s the one pre-teen girls are sooooo crazy about) and Louis Tomlinson. The oldest will be 21 in December, the rest are 18 and 19 years old. Photo courtesy OneDirectionMusic.com
The fab five are British. They were solo contestants on the X Factor, the British version of American Idol. Then they were put into a band by the show’s creator, Simon Cowell.
One Direction has been on The Today Show, Saturday Night Live, and their debut album “Up All Night” is number one on the 200 Billboard Chart, selling 176,000 copies in the first week.
The music is reminiscent of NSync, and the mania is too. A piece of toast, half eaten by One Direction’s Niall Horan, sold online for for almost $100,000.
As a mom who took her daughter to two Jonas Brothers concerts in 2007, I know the hype with this latest group will only last for a few years. But for those girls who get caught up in it, they’ll always remember the boys in the band. I’m still an Osmond fan.
Ladies, you know what I’m talking about. Who was your first crush?
