Safest and most dangerous places to live in Washington

May 23, 2017, 5:33 AM

Want to move to a safe town? Try Mattawa in Eastern Washington. According to home security website Safewise, it’s the safest community in Washington state. The agricultural town boasts a population of 4,400 people who predominantly speak Spanish — 95 percent of the population is Hispanic or Latino.

Safewise ran the numbers to reveal the rate of violent crimes and property crimes per 1,000 residents, using data from the FBI. The company, however, didn’t consider cities with fewer than 2,000 residents — sorry Mossyrock.

Check out the gallery for the top 10 safest cities in Washington. As for 11-20:

11. Steilacoom
12. West Richland
13. Oak Harbor
14. Selah
15. Black Diamond
16. Snoqualmie
17. Brier
18. Bainbridge Island
19. Orting
20. Kenmore

Dangerous Washington town

Safewise used the same data to determine the most dangerous cities across the United States and one Washington town rose to the top.

Tukwila is the second most dangerous city in America, according to Safewise. Tukwila has 7.51 violent crimes and 165.84 property crimes per 1,000 residents.

But it’s not all bad news. The city actually got safer over the past year — it used to be ranked no. 1. Tukwila residents can say, “At least we’re not Emeryville, California.”
