Kim Murphy who reports for the Los Angeles Times on Northwest events is a resident of Bainbridge Island. She said she’s been “kicked in the shins” over the last 24 hours for her comments in a blog post entitled Snow wimps: Seattle is shut down by first real storm of the season.

“Seattle is the only place that falls apart when two inches of snow falls,” Murphy told 97.3 KIRO FM’s Dori Monson Show. She said the roads were reasonably passable, as long as you’re not headed up a steep hill. She blames the careless drivers, many of whom are Los Angeles transplants that are even less-equipped for snow driving than native Seattleites.

According to Murphy, the City of Seattle needs an army to handle the snow situation when it arrives, and the few plows we have paralyze us when storm finally does arrive.

Though, she does say the turn in weather is serious, and doesn’t mean for her comments to take lightly the situations of hundreds of thousands of Washington residents that now find themselves without power, and most importantly, heat. “It’s a serious situation.”
