Ten years after her roommate’s murder, Amanda Knox wrote a tribute to Meredith Kercher in the Westside Seattle.

Knox opened with:

“Ten years ago tonight, my friend was raped and murdered by a burglar when she was home alone in the apartment we shared while studying abroad in Perugia, Italy.”

Knox said she misses the small moments she and Kercher shared during their short time together. Things like “sipping espresso” together or lugging home groceries. The memories are buried deep beneath years of “wrongful imprisonment” and gruesome details of Kercher’s death.

“But despite all this, these memories still feel very close, in part because Meredith was my closest friend in a new and exciting time in our lives,” Knox wrote. “But I think it’s also because I’ve never been allowed to mourn her.”

Knox, her then-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito, and Rudy Guede were charged and found guilty of Kercher’s murder. An Italian judge acquitted Knox and Sollecito in 2015. Guede is serving a 16-year sentence.

Knox currently lives in Seattle and writes for Westside Seattle, formerly the West Seattle Herald.
