William Shatner wants Seattle’s water; proposes pipeline

William Shatner of Star Trek fame recently proposed an idea to help alleviate California’s drought concerns. But the idea might be a bit too far out for KIRO Radio’s Tom and Curley.

In a Yahoo! interview with David Pogue, Shatner proposes to construct a pipeline to bring water from an area such as Washington, to California. He said he will start a Kickstarter campaign to fund it.

“I want $30 billion in my Kickstarter campaign to build a pipeline, like the Alaska pipeline, say from Seattle, a place where there’s a lot of water, there’s too much water,” Shatner said. “And bring it down here and fill up one of our lakes.”

But co-host Tom Tangney notes that there may be a small problem in Shatner’s plan.

“He clearly isn’t keeping track of our ski resorts over the winter to realize that water might not be in Seattle this summer,” he said.

California has asked residents to cut back on water usage by 30 percent. The state is also paying incentives to homeowners to remove grass and remodel their yards with drought-tolerant plants.
