Shower Thoughts: How do ICE agents sleep at night?

It’s Wednesday; you know what that means. I’ve been thinking in the shower again. Let’s do some rapid fire Shower Thoughts™.

How good you are at something is entirely dependent on your competition. I went to Las Vegas last weekend to compete in the biggest poker tournament of my life. About 1,000 players bought in for their chance at a Million Dollar Guaranteed prize pool. I busted out in the top third of players. It’s about where I thought I was. My bag of tricks that works against most locals did not work against tough professionals. Good to know.

Hey property owners, can I interest you in another new levy? You’ll barely notice it on top of all the other taxes and fees you’re paying. The new one is only $600 million. It’s for free community college and some other things. Clearly, if you’re a renter, you should be exempt from this cost, but if you’re an owner, time to pony up … again.

Summer officially starts Thursday. Make sure you pull out your calendar and schedule all the great things our area has to offer. Go on a hike, call that friend who has a boat, check out an outdoor concert, and have drinks with a friend on a waterfront deck. These next few months are why we put up with the miserable winters, so enjoy.

The movie “JAWS” came out 40 years ago today. For some reason, my mother thought it would be a great idea to take her 7-year-old to see it. I was so freaked out that I kept running out of the theater. “JAWS” gave me nightmares for weeks. I didn’t even want to swim at the YMCA after that movie.

The more evidence we get, the more difficult it is to deny that we have a race baiter and gas lighter for a president. He has made it clear to his party that locking up brown people at the border and separating parents from children is a good political strategy for the mid-terms. When overt cruelty becomes good politics, I’m out.

We spend a lot of time thinking about the people responsible for this policy at the top of the pyramid. I wonder what it’s like for the ICE agents and child care providers who are asked every day to be calloused and cruel towards children in order to keep their government job? Many of them then go home to their own children. That would drive me to drink.
