Your last chance to register to vote in Washington is nearing — the deadline to register online was Oct. 8, but there’s still time to go in person.
To account for added expected volume, the King County election office in Renton will be open Saturday, Oct. 27, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The office will be closed on Sunday, and then on Monday, you’ll have until the close of business.
Washington voters
Washington consistently boasts a higher percentage of registered voters than the rest of the United States. 62 percent of eligible voters were registered during the 2016 election, while just 56 percent voted. Comparatively, Washington had 76.83 percent of eligible voters registered, with 78.76 percent of those voting. In total, the state has approximately 4.2 million total registered voters.
The Seattle Times also reported that registration for new voters in King County over the last year has nearly doubled, with the county estimating that around 1,000 people registered every day since Oct. 1, topped by 6,000 on Oct. 8.
The 2018 midterm election marks the first time that state ballots will be sent out with prepaid postage, meaning that it’s quite literally never been easier to vote in Washington.
Statistics obtained from the U.S. Census Bureau and the Washington State Office of Financial Management.
