Bystanders take down suspected groper near Seattle bus stop

A woman waiting at a bus stop in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood was taken by surprise when a man crept up on her and groped her. But also surprising was the help she received from Seattle strangers who took the man down.

The woman saw the suspected groper walking toward her at the bus stop at Broadway and East Union Street Thursday evening, according to the Seattle Police Department. The man suddenly moved behind her, assaulted and groped her.
Bystanders heard the woman’s screams and quickly responded, yelling at the man who then gave chase. One witness called 9-1-1, while two other men — one on foot and one on a bike — chased the suspect. The 29-year-old suspect didn’t make it far. He was tackled and pinned to the ground at Broadway and Pike Street; one block from the incident. They held him until police arrived.

The suspect has been booked into the King County Jail for investigation into indecent liberties. He is a registered sex offender, according to the Seattle Police Department.
