The Seattle Police Department reports that a thief took a neighbor’s dog and wouldn’t return the pet until the owner gave him money or drugs. But officers knew how to make the thief be a good boy.

A Victory Heights dog owner had lost his furry friend and was searching for the pet on July 10 around 9:30 p.m. He chanced upon the dog at NE 125th Street and 17th Avenue NE, hanging out with the suspected dog-napper. The owner approached the suspect, but found that the alleged thief refused to give the dog back. The owner told police that the thief wanted to be paid to return the dog, with cash or drugs.

When it became apparent that the owner wasn’t going to pay, the thief pushed him to the ground and fled with the pooch to a nearby car and drove away.

Luckily for the owner, Seattle police have had experience with the alleged thief and knew who the dog owner was describing after calling 9-1-1. It didn’t take more than a simple call, and the thief fetched the dog and returned it to officers.

The suspected dog thief was arrested and booked into King County Jail for an investigation into the robbery.
