What happens when you let kids build a burger?

How does a nice juicy all grass-fed natural beef burger sound? How about one with bacon? Throw on a little ketchup … then mac and cheese. And of course, a side of gummy bears.

If you’ve been waiting for such a dish to hit Seattle, then wait no longer. Seattle’s Li’l Woody’s burger joints will be offering such a taste from June 9-15 as a conclusion to its Ballard Li’l Woody’s Loves the Kids art contest that ran in May.

“We had an art show where each of the elementary schools created art that had to do with our establishment,” said Owner Marcus Lalario, noting a lot of the art featured burgers and other aspects of the restaurant.

“We displayed it for about a month and you could come in and vote for what one you liked the best,” he said. “The most votes got to create a burger. The kids chose a burger they wanted to eat.”

The Ballard community voted on their favorite works of art from May 9-23 and students from Adams Elementary ended up scoring the ultimate prize. Their reward: they got to create the burger of the week. The school also got a gift card to the Dakota Art Store.

“We wanted to make sure the kids got to pick what they wanted on it,” Lalario said. “We didn’t want any adult influence. So they picked Kraft macaroni and Cheese, bacon, ketchup with a side of gummy bears.”

It’s a burger with the bacon, mac and cheese, and ketchup all incorporated in the burger. It’s titled the Adam’s Eagle Burger and is now available at the Ballard and Capitol Hill Li’l Woody’s locations. To make the reward just a little extra tasty, Li’l Woody’s is donating all the profits from the special burger sales to the school’s art program.
