Northbound Hwy 99 reopens after wrong-way driver collision

A driver drove the wrong way in Highway 99’s northbound lanes Friday morning, causing a collision and closing down all but one lane at the viaduct.

Seattle’s emergency crews responded to the scene around 2:30 a.m. after the car was heading south in the highway’s northbound lanes. The car collided with a motorcycle with a 55-year-old rider. The motorcyclists has been sent to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
Crews continue to clean up the crash site on Highway 99. Only one lane is open for traffic as of 6 a.m.
The Seattle Police Department is investigating the collision to determine if drugs or alcohol were involved. The driver of the car has been arrested.
