Tacoma man shot after police respond to loud music complaint

Tacoma police shot and killed a man in front of his home after responding to a report of loud music on Sunday.
Officers shot and killed Steven Wyman, 48, in the 3400 block of South Proctor Street.
“It is still unclear what prompted the shooting,” KING 5 reporter Jake Whittenberg told KIRO Radio’s Dave Ross.
“[Police] say he had a gun when he came out the front door,” Whittenberg said.
After responding to Wyman’s home for a report of loud music, officers witnessed him grab a gun before moving toward the entrance to the home, according to the Tacoma Police Department. Wyman was eventually shot outside the home. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Whittenberg spoke with Wyman’s parents and reported that they believe Wyman would not harm police officers.
A Tacoma SWAT team also was called to the home after the shooting. The home was searched and cleared. Other adults were in the home, but their relationship to Wyman is not known, according to the Tacoma Police Department.
The officer who shot Wyman was not injured during the incident. He has been placed on paid administrative leave. He is 34 years old and has served on the Tacoma police force for six years.
