The Los Angeles School District has a new policy saying that homework can’t account for more than 10 percent of a student’s grade.

According to the LA Times , the policy is “intended to account for the myriad urban problems facing the district’s mostly low-income, minority population. It’s also aimed at supporting L.A. Unified’s increasing focus on boosting measureable academic achievement.”

97.3 KIRO FM’s Dori Monson, Dave Ross, and Luke Burbank shared their thoughts Monday.

“I happen to like doing homework” said Dave Ross. “Especially in mathematics because you always knew if you were getting the right answer or not.”

“It’s the worst possible way to learn because most of the time you are cramming….You don’t have a teacher there who can explain the concepts for you,” said Luke Burbank.

“I never had any homework. I truly believe my kids do more homework in two weeks than I would do in an entire school year,” said Dori Monson. “If your kid does homework and the parents are supporting it, that’s somehow inflating the grade?”
