Water poured onto southbound I-5 in Edmonds at 220th Street Southwest Tuesday morning.

“There is water all over the freeway on southbound I-5 in the Mountlake Terrace area,” said KIRO Radio traffic reporter Chris Sullivan at the time of the spill.

The water was mostly cleared by crews around 9:30 a.m.

The spillage was caused when a Sound Transit contractor hit a water main while removing a noise wall at a nearby construction site. The water was subsequently turned off, with the City of Mountlake Terrace repairing the main.

The on-ramp on 220th to southbound I-5 was closed until 10 a.m., and caused “significant backups.”
