I saw a rather remarkable tweet about New Year’s Eve over the weekend from King County Executive Dow Constantine.

That is really nice of Dow Constantine, to provide us with free King County Metro bus service on New Year’s Eve.

Of course, I know that we have to pay for three full-time King County Sheriff’s Office employees to drive Constantine everywhere — including when he goes drinking after hours, according to sources. I know that we spend about $400,000 on this per year. But at least we can ride the bus for free for one night a year.

Let me translate his message:

“If you’re not smart enough to scam taxpayers out of $400,000 a year to provide you with an elite ride anywhere and everywhere so you can drink — not just on New Year’s Eve, but 365 days a year — then you should just go ride the bus with all the rest of the unwashed masses.”

I do advise you, on New Year’s Eve, to be responsible and drive safely. This has been a Dori Monson PSA.
