Seattle police arrested a suspect early Wednesday that they believe could be connected to 12 separate fires set in a single night.

Dori: Man arrested in Seattle arson case a frequent offender

SPD describes a “string of arsons” that began at 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, after a dumpster in the 1200 block of Boylston Avenue was set on fire. The alleged perpetrator then began making their way north, after a string of other fires were then set in dumpsters and recycling bins across Pioneer Square, the International District, First Hill, Capitol Hill, and Yesler Terrace.

The suspected arsonist was nabbed around 2 a.m. Wednesday, after transit security guards on Capitol Hill saw a 25-year-old man throwing cardboard into a burning trashcan at East Olive Way and Broadway. The suspect was apprehended a few blocks away from that location, after transit security extinguished the trashcan fire.

Law enforcement isn’t completely certain if the man is responsible for the other fires, but is in the process of investigating a possible link.
