Another company will soon join Lime and ReachNow in the great car-share service in the sky, with Share Now taking its vehicles off the road in both Seattle and North America beginning in February 2020.

LimePod’s Seattle carshare experiment rides off into sunset

This marks the end of the last remaining free-floating car-sharing service in Seattle, with Share Now citing “two extremely complicated realities” as its reasons for closing up shop.

“The first being the volatile state of the global mobility landscape, and the second being the rising infrastructure complexities facing North American transportation today and the associated costs needed to sustain operations here,” the company said in a news release. “Ultimately, we are not in a position to commit to the level of investment necessary to make the North American market successful.”

The last date customers will be able to start a trip in a Share Now vehicle will be on Feb. 29, 2020; all trips on that day must end by 11:59 p.m. on that date. The company also encourages customers with remaining credits on their accounts to use them “as soon as they are able to do so.”

Share Now — originally known as Car2Go before a recent rebranding — arrived in 2012 as Seattle’s first ever car-sharing service. It will soon also have the honor of being the last to leave.

Earlier in 2019, ReachNow shuttered its car service in Seattle and Portland after a corporate realignment. Lime soon followed suit, ending new sign-ups for its LimePod car-sharing service in October.
