Since the coronavirus outbreak has prevented firefighters from engaging with the community through tours and community events, Seattle Fire is partnering with Seattle Fire Fighters Union, Local 27 to launch “Friday Night Lights” beginning April 17.

At-home ‘swab and scan’ kits identify 44 COVID-19 cases in King County

It will involve fire trucks slowly driving through their residential districts on Friday nights, as well as areas with assisted living and long-term care facilities. They’ll flash their lights and may be holding signs as well, all in an effort to let the community know that they’re here with them during the fight against coronavirus.

Residents and their kids are encouraged to come to windows or front door steps and watch the procession go by, but are asked not to approach the trucks for social distancing reasons. It’s part of a two-week pilot program and will be continued indefinitely if it’s deemed effective in engaging the community.

Seattle parks will be open this weekend, but ‘keep it moving’

Despite the scheduled fire truck parade, the press release noted that if an emergency takes place during this time, the firefighters will prioritize that, for obvious reasons.
