Dori: The other virus infecting all our kids

Two children: One has been hard-working for years and has been accepted into a great college.

The other kid couldn’t care less about college.

The first kid remains driven with the same passion that got her into her dream school. Even during the stay-at-home order, she gets up every day and works online to maximize her education during these bizarre times.

The second kid gets up every day, smokes some weed, plays video games, and logs on to his school’s website for about 15 seconds.

If those two kids are in the Bellingham School District, they’ll both get a 4.0 GPA this spring. Seattle announced the same thing a couple weeks ago. Bellingham is just the latest district to announce that all kids — no matter their level of effort or achievement — will get straight A’s this spring.

Yes, socialism has fully invaded and infested our children. It’s a virus far more dangerous than COVID-19, because there’s no cure when you have been conditioned to be a loser in life’s game. The hardest workers and the biggest slackers will have the exact same outcome. Just like the society too many government officials dream of for all of us. The most diligent — and the least — should have the exact same outcome.

That’s what a proposed Seattle business tax is all about. We’ll take money from the hardest working and then write $500 monthly checks to heroin addicts.

What a lovely message to teach our kids. No effort — and maximum effort — will yield the same outcome. It’s a Kshama Sawant/Tammy Morales dream come true.

It’s stomach-turning that our schools are reinforcing this message. The good news is that a lot of kids still have a drive to excel. They will rise above the disgusting socialism of our public schools.

The bad news is that a lot of kids are being poisoned by a loser mentality that has taken root in our schools. In a few years, those kids will be the young adults marching in the streets demanding someone else’s money because life has been so unfair to them.

Unfair — except for that magical spring of 2020 when they were a 4.0 GPA student. The year they were perfect and everyone was way above average.
