Puyallup youth coach jailed on child molestation, porn charges

A former Puyallup youth sports coach is jailed in Oregon for allegedly molesting at least 10 children and producing child pornography. The Washington State Patrol says it’s likely there are far more victims.

Kenneth “Scott” Carroll, 42, is being held in Clackamas County, Oregon on nine counts of sexual abuse of children.

“This investigation began as two cases of sexual abuse of minors. It didn’t take long for us to find evidence that Mr. Carroll had compounded his crimes by videotaping the abuse,” said Lt. Ron Mead, commander of the MECTF. “With Mr. Carroll now jailed in Oregon, we hope that other victims in our area will feel safe coming forward.”

Investigators have identified five victims in Washington and five in Oregon.

“I would suspect his victimization is going to extend much further than it has thus far,” said Lt. Ron Mead, who supervises Washington State Patrol’s Missing and Exploited Children’s Task Force.

The abuse is believed to date back as far as 1997, and most of the victims are now adults, Mead said.

Carroll previously coached the Puyallup Roughriders football program and Puyallup Falcons junior wrestling team. Both clubs are fully cooperating in the investigation, Mead said.

Authorities began investigating the former coach in February after an alleged victim reported he had been abused when he was 12.

Detectives found more than 140,000 child porn pictures and 1,000 videos at Carroll’s Puyallup home after serving a search warrant.

The former coach has lived in both Puyallup and Canada in recent years, Mead said.

Carroll reportedly met the alleged victims in Oregon when he coached youth wrestling and football between 1998 and 2002, according to The Oregonian.

While Carroll faces a number of charges, authorities hope more victims will come forward even though they acknowledge how difficult that might be, Mead said.

“We want to document every single case of abuse, and make sure each victim knows we take their case seriously,” Mead said. “We are sensitive to the trauma involved, and hope that those who’ve been victimized will give us a chance to seek justice on their behalf.”
