Federal Way basketball coach arrested for sexual relationship with teen player

A female Federal Way High School basketball coach has been arrested for having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old female player and student.

The 23-year-old was arrested early Friday for investigation of child rape, child molestation, possession and viewing of child pornography.

Court documents say the victim admitted to investigators the pair were engaged in a relationship since 2013. Strong allegedly confessed to sexual contact with the player, and admitted the pair sent naked images to each other.

Federal Way police spokeswoman Catchy Schrock tells the Federal Way Mirror a friend of the victim originally reported the relationship.

Federal Way High School interim principal Chad Littrell sent a letter to parents Monday alerting them of the arrest, referring to Strong only as a “former coaching staff member.”

“The safety and well-being of our students is our first priority. We depend on our staff, students, parents and community members to be alert to what’s happening with our students, and to notify us when a concern arises. It takes all of us working together to maintain a safe and positive learning environment,” Littrell wrote.

The suspect was a coach of the C and junior varsity teams. She was being held Monday following her initial court appearance on $70,000 at the King County Jail. A second court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday.
