Witnesses called 911 Thursday morning to report seeing a man pushing a shopping cart down the street in South Seattle with a body inside.
The witnesses said they tried to confront the man near the 4000 S. block of Austin St. when he stopped to pick through some garbage cans, but he took off.
Officers arrived and found the shopping cart with what appeared to be a pile of clothes with feet sticking out. Fire officials determined the person was dead, and had sustained several fatal injuries.
The King County Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death, but Seattle police are currently investigating the incident as a homicide.
Police said witnesses described the man pushing the cart as a young black male with dreadlocks and wearing a black jacket and blue jeans.
Anyone with any information about that man or the incident is asked to call 911.
