A newborn baby was found dead near a road in Snoqualmie Wednesday afternoon.

King County Sheriff’s Sgt. Cindi West said they received a call around 2:15 p.m. Wednesday from a passerby who saw what they thought was a deceased baby, about 10 feet off the road in the woods near the Kimble Creek bridge.

The spot is in the 38800 block of SE North Bend Way, about a mile from the Snoqualmie Casino.

Detectives said they believe the baby was a full-term newborn and did not indicate the baby’s gender.

The baby was taken to the medical examiner’s office where they will determine a cause and approximate time of death. They will also try to determine if the baby died out in the woods or if it had died sometime before.

“Anytime something happens to a child or a baby, it’s very difficult to deal with even for the investigators,” said West. “Their goal is to the best job they can and to solve this situation, but it certainly doesn’t mean that they’re not affected by it.”

The King County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with any information to call 206-296-3311 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.

“This whole situation is just terrible in general,” said West. “We definitely want to get to the bottom of what happened to the baby, how did it end up out there and where’s the mother.”
