Cars and cookies, Seahawks deals popping up all over town

Strict rules prevent manufacturers and marketers from exploiting the Super Bowl name. But that won’t stop clever and opportunistic Seattle-area retailers from making a buck on the wings of the Seahawks success.

Of course, the guys who sell t-shirts, caps, sweatshirts and other sports clothing and souvenirs will do well. But restauranteurs are also courting the 12th Man.
Strolling through Seattle’s Pike Place Market, you might discover a little Post Alley spot called Copacabana, a Bolivian restaurant, which has a two-for-one Seahawks meal special.

In Bellingham, Moe Breiter, general manager at Fiamma Burger is already selling the ‘Seahawk Burger,’ with team colors. Not too hokey, he said, and still gourmet.

“It’s got beef, horseradish, mayonnaise, pickles, red onions, tater tots, Swiss cheese and blue cheese.” Breiter had the special burger ready to go, waiting for a Seahawks victory on Sunday.

You can also order Golden Tater Tots and a berry-citrus milkshake, with Skittles.

In Everett, a self-storage business has a 12th Man special.

“Twelve percent off on certain size spaces, any of the longer spaces, for the first three months, for the 12th man,” said Mickey Gourley at Silver Lake Self Storage. She’s a Hawks fan from the Steve Largent era and says the Seahawks are good for business.

Seahawks and 12th Man deals are popping up all over and the products need have nothing to do with football.

At the Pike Place Market you’ll find “Beast Mode” cheesecake at Confectional and football cookies from Cinnamon Works.

Look for football-themed sales on wine, cars and trucks, pet services and for the football fan who has everything, from the handmade crafts site Etsy.com, a 12th Man knitted octopus for the bargain price of $3.
